Supporting Energy Resilience Across YMCA Victoria’s Discovery Camps

I’m proud to share a closer look at the battery energy storage project Nyawi Consulting is delivering with YMCA Discovery Camps Victoria, Sungrow and the Victorian Government through the 100 Neighbourhood Batteries Program.
The project involves the deployment of twelve Sungrow ST225kWh-110kW-2hr-AU PowerStack battery systems across YMCA Victoria’s Discovery Camps. These sites collectively support more than 80,000 guests each year, including young people, families, schools and community groups.
The batteries will allow the camps to store more of the solar energy generated onsite and use it when it is most valuable. This will help reduce electricity costs, improve energy resilience and provide YMCA Victoria with greater visibility and control over its energy assets.
However, the value of the project extends well beyond the technology itself.
YMCA Victoria’s camps are places where young people learn, explore and develop a stronger connection with the natural environment. By integrating renewable energy generation, battery storage and energy monitoring into these facilities, the sites can also become practical examples of what the transition to cleaner and more resilient energy systems looks like.
For Nyawi Sustainability Consultants, this project has involved much more than selecting and installing batteries. Our role has included developing the original project vision, assessing the sites, supporting the funding process, coordinating delivery partners and helping YMCA Victoria connect the technical solution with its broader operational, environmental and community objectives.
